This is my elder sister, Sammy.
When she was 14 she started to have pain in her back, and have bouts of what seemed like fever. For many years she was bounced around from hospital to hospital, from Newcastle to London, and that was only due to my mother’s constant nagging and sheer…
PSA:My Mother never told me this! Reblog to save a baby Bird:)
JUST A LITTLE HISTORY FACT MY GRANDFATHER TOLD ME:
The reason this myth was a thing, was because back in the 30’s-50’s or so ( I can’t remember the time)
There was a parasite that was living in birds. It was hard to explain it to children, so they basically made up this myth so children wouldn’t touch the birds incase it carried the parasite.
THE MORE YOU KNOW YEA?
Glad someone pointed that out. My parents always told me it was unhealthy to touch wildlife, which is good, because it kept me from doing just that.
I wish more parents would just tell their kids the truth instead of lying to them for the simplicity’s sake. It’s not hard to say “wild animals can make you sick if you play with them”. I didn’t question it—at least, not any more than I did the notion of Santa Claus.
Children are people, too. When we lie to them, we spread misinformation and myths to the next generation. Can we please just be honest, yet tactful and sensitive with our kids? It’s not terribly hard.
